The Mineralogical alphabet exhibition, in an updated form, is on display again following requests of museum visitors.

Visiting the exhibition one can admire beautiful minerals, rocks and mineral substances showing the richness of the word of minerals. The most interesting and the most beautiful mineral masterpieces from the collection of the Museum of the Earth are presented in alphabetical order under their mineralogical names or names used by jewellers. Thanks to this arrangement of the exhibition it is easy to find concrete minerals.

The world of minerals is full of colours and shapes. The exhibits on display have been selected to show their diversity. Much attention should be paid to different colours of the same mineral, for example, colourless and transparent quartz crystals (rock crystal) and its varieties, including smoky quartz, purple amethyst and milky calcite, as well as blue aquamarine and emerald which are the varieties of beryl.

Mineral crystals occur in various shapes and sizes. The particular shape is determined by the arrangement of the atoms, molecules or ions that make up the crystal and how they are joined. On show are slender tourmalines occurring in long, slender columns, pyrite cubic crystals and atacamite prisms.

Gemstone lovers can see rough and cut diamonds, Australian opals, faceted emeralds, sapphires and topazes. On display are large crystals of quartz and many other minerals, including a special collection of fluorescent minerals which can glow under ultraviolet light.
