Every child in Poland regardless of nationality, country of origin, religion or legal status has right to education. According to Polish legislation, ‘child’ is every person under 18 years old.
Education is also compulsory for everyone under 16 years old. According to the law, every child under 16 is obliged to study until reaching 16 or until lower-secondary school graduation (whatever comes first). Parents are obliged to register their child to school and to take care of their effort and attendance.
All children, regardless of their legal status, have a right and duty to learn at the starting grades of education :
- ‘0’ grades, preparing 5 and 6 year old children to attend primary school, supervised by school (for free) or kindergarten (on payment )

The children with the other types of legal status may take advantage of education on higher grades by charge or throughout the scholarship. Scholarships may be offered by Ministry of National Education, school headmaster, county or borough authorities.
