Mobile Gardens of Warsaw, Gardening Advice Points and Your Gardening Expert are just a few elements of the next edition of the competition “Warsaw in flowers and greenery” launched on 25 May. This is the largest competition in Poland devoted to greenery and ecology initiated by Mayor Starzyński.

“Warsaw in flowers and greenery” is a competition for which everyone can submit their garden, home garden, balcony and even window with a flower composition. Last year the events associated with “Warsaw in flowers and greenery” were attended by several thousand people, with the record-breaking 500 entries submitted by residents. The competition is open for all Warsaw’s residents, companies and institutions operating in the city and groups undertaking green initiatives. Gardens will receive prizes in three categories: individuals, companies and neighbours.

Every year, the Stefan Starzyński Award is presented to commemorate the Mayor who was a promoter of making the city greener. Another award will be presented by the Warsaw Friends Association in six categories: balconies, loggias, windows, home gardens and public areas, including housing estates, and other forms of urban greenery. In addition, the “Mister of Flowers” title will be awarded for the overall inflorescence of a building.

Entries can be submitted from 25 May to 7 July 2018

In June on weekends it will be possible to encounter Mobile Gardens of Warsaw, which will change the parts of the city with scarce vegetation into green leisure areas. On each weekend in a different location, visitors will have an opportunity to take a break from the city’s hustle and bustle and receive advice on starting their own gardens, which is possible, among others, on Vistulan Boulevards. Those who would like to start their adventure with plants and flowers will receive advice from Your Gardening Expert. On 11-23 June it will be possible to meet the experts in gardening centres and flower shops.

Gardening Advice Points will feature workshops and training courses on starting community gardens. The points will appear in the Wola Community Garden, BioBazar and the areas of the Żoliborz Powder Magazine. One of the Gardening Advice Points will be the “Pamiętajcie o ogrodach (Remember the Gardens)” walk – a sentimental gardening and literary journey. This year’s 35th edition of the “Warsaw in flowers and greenery” competition is also aimed at making the youngest city residents interested in the subjects of plants and ecology. Two projects were created especially for children: “Little Warsaw in flowers” for preschoolers and pupils, and a gardening day camp.
