In the Jazdów housing estate, Miss Wheelchair World 2017 participants have planted ornamental apple trees, which will not only be easy on the eyes of Warsaw’s residents, but will also commemorate the contest, which is to take place in Warsaw in just a few days.

The trees were planted by Ewa Malinowska-Grupińska, Chairperson of the Warsaw City Council, Michał Olszewski, Deputy Mayor of the City of Warsaw, Katarzyna Wojtaszek, President of The Only One Foundation (Fundacja Jedyna Taka), Karolina Malczyk, Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of the City of Warsaw for Equal Treatment, and Miss Wheelchair World 2017 participants.

“I am more than happy that you, Ladies, have joined our “Million Trees for Warsaw” programme. Each of these trees brings us closer to our goal. I am sure these trees will be special, and certainly exceptionally pretty,” said Michał Olszewski, Deputy Mayor of the City of Warsaw, during the event.

“When I look at you now, I can already see how difficult it will be for the jury to choose the most beautiful contestant. I wish you a wonderful stay in our beautiful city. Thank you for coming. I keep my fingers crossed for each one of you,” said Ewa Malinowska-Grupińska, Chairperson of the Warsaw City Council, during today’s event.

Let me say a warm ‘thank you’ to the City authorities for making this possible. It was very important for me that there was something left after your stay in Poland, in Warsaw, something that would last for a long time, and I think these trees will grow to become mighty and strong, and will bring back to the people who come here some pleasant memories of your visit to our country,” added Katarzyna Wojtaszek, President of The Only One Foundation.

Miss Wheelchair World 2017 is much more than just a beauty contest. It is also an excellent opportunity for people with disabilities from all around the world to integrate with each other, and an important step towards a change in their perception in society. Miss Wheelchair World 2017 participants prove that a wheelchair does not have to be an insurmountable obstacle, and that every woman has the right to follow her dreams.
